Your boys did an outstanding job modeling how to use the cards. They are
one of my favorite tools that I use in my practice as I can modify how I use them for every child! I am glad to see that you found several ways to use them as well! My favorite part about the cards is seeing the children’s imaginations come to life as they depict each animal. Seldom, do I ever see an animal acted out the same way. I love it!

I typically only choose a few cards each session, whether it be to match the letters we’re focusing on writing, or to encourage sensory motor activity. Some children need cards that encourage calming, while others need to be alerted a bit. So, at times, I will intentionally identify cards to address those areas for children to choose from. If I find that my kids are getting too revved up, I choose a group of cards for them to pick from that include some slow movements or stretches and respirations (think Yoga) such as Whistle like a Quail, Snort like a Hippo, Squeeze like an Octopus, or Stretch like a Giraffe. These are good cards to end with to help “slow our engines” before we move on to another
activity.

While you are correct, there is not a great deal of “traditional” tactile input that occurs, do consider the tactile input your boys get when they’re touching the surface of the floor (carpet or hardwood), the deep pressure input they receive when they’re performing activities like slithering like a snake, etc. Additional sensory motor benefits they are receiving include respiratory activities, motor planning and bilateral integration.

I love your ideas for “Picking a Card” or placing them across the floor in ABC order. As well, I have found the same to be true regarding the “missing dry erase marker”. We will consider that as we strive to make improvements to meet the needs of the whole family! I bet your boys would love the I Can Pound! kit which also has a literacy component as they can pound letters and numbers, as well as cute pictures. Once again, thank you for your feedback and do not hesitate to consult with us should you have any additional questions! I see you’ve already found us on twitter (@Fundanoodle) and we’re also on Facebook (facebook.com/fundanoodlelearning).Fundanoodlenoreply@blogger.com
